What do I enter if a student's identified race/ethnicity is not an option available in SWIS?

Modified on Tue, 1 Aug, 2023 at 12:13 PM

The SWIS Suite uses federally defined categories for race and ethnicity reporting.

Federal guidelines require all students to report both ethnicity and race. For students who have not identified an ethnicity and/or race from the list of federally defined categories, the federal guidelines require observer identification. To identify a student as multi-racial, select all races with which a student identifies. Our recommendation is to check your district-level policies for additional guidance.

More information on the federal guidelines can be found on the U.S. Department of Education website.
