Question:
I am an I-SWIS facilitator. When a school asks me for an overview of I-SWIS, who should be there and what information do you recommend presenting at this first meeting?
Answer:
When a school wants to know more about I-SWIS, an informational overview is an easy way to get everyone together to see what the application can do to support their efforts. The overview you give could look a little different depending on the school. Here are some ideas for how to show what I-SWIS is:
- Introduce the purpose of I-SWIS using some of the Swift at I-SWIS slides as a reference.
- Use the Demo Account to show School-Wide I-SWIS reports or a student’s Dashboard. These give everyone a sense of which data are collected by default in the application and how they can customize I-SWIS to each student’s plan.
- Review the Readiness Checklist and talk about how they would get started with their own I-SWIS account. Help everyone know more about what will be required of them before signing up to use I-SWIS.
- As for who should be there when you give the overview: We recommend inviting the Tier 3 team and anyone with a role in implementing Tier 3 supports in the building to come listen to your overview. If there are behavioral experts or others who manage individual student cases in attendance, you could demonstrate setting up student case files in your Facilitator Training Account. Read the room; you’ll know if this is helpful.
Beyond these ideas, remember there are lots of resources on our website for you to use as you need. Check out all of the I-SWIS resources available in I-SWIS User Guides and Materials.
