One of my schools is trying to use the new Pearson Import and has th following question: If we turn that unique ID setting on and use Person Import for our 2016-17 data I assume it may cause an issue creating duplicate people if it sees the data from multiple years in one database. If it sees separate databases by years than I would think it would be less of an issue. Is the new year a new database? If not, how do you recommend we proceed?

If you you want to use Person Import this year, and have not in year’s past, there a few things you’ll want to do first. If you didn’t previously use student or staff ID numbers in SWIS, you will want to go through now, using Person Management, and add a user ID to each person. It will be much easier to do this now, before you use Person Import. If a student is no longer with the school, you can archive them is Person Management, and you won’t have to add that ID number. Once you’ve added the ID number to each staff and student already in the system, you will want to make sure that number matches what you’ve listed for that person on the spreadsheet that you will upload using Person Import. As long as the number matches, it shouldn’t create any duplicated student or staff members.
